Brisbane residents affected by the February rain event are being offered further support via Brisbane City Council’s rates rebate.  A $250 rebate is available to eligible residents and businesses on their next rates bill.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner also announced that every residential rates notice across Brisbane for the April quarter will be postponed by a month, ensuring bills don’t arrive until at least the end of April.

Am I eligible to receive the Brisbane City Council’s rates rebate?

Eligible applicants for the Brisbane City Council’s rates rebate must be the owners of an affected property as of 26 February 2022 where:

• Council records show that the property is located in an area where flood water has encroached within the boundaries of the land, or
• other evidence is provided by the ratepayer of significant inundation or rainfall damage (e.g. photos showing property inundation/damage or an insurance report).

For Community Title Scheme (CTS) properties, all owners within a CTS that is on land where flood water has encroached will be eligible to apply for the rebate.

Vacant land or land owned by any government will not be eligible for the rebate.

How can I apply to receive the rate rebate?

Applications are now open and you can apply for the rebate online. If you are unable to apply online, contact the Council’s Contact Centre on 07 3403 8888.  Applications close on 15 June 2022.

When will I receive the rebate?

When the rebate is applied will depend on when the application is made. Approved applicants will receive the rebate in either the fourth quarter of the 2021-22 financial year or the first quarter of the 2022-23 financial year.

Applications made by 22 April will receive the rebate in the fourth quarter 2021-22.  Applications made after 22 April and by 15 June will receive the rebate in the first quarter 2022-23.

Ratepayers who have already received their fourth quarter rates bill will have the rebate applied in the first quarter of the 2022-23 financial year.
